MEDIA RELEASE: GMES & AFRICA SOUTHERN AFRICA REGIONAL WORKSHOP TO SHOWCASE NEW EARTH OBSERVATION TECHNOLOGIES TO MITIGATE THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

 

The Southern African Science Service Centre for Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) and The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will be co-hosting the GMES and Africa Southern African Regional Workshop from the 5th -7th June 2023 in Luanda, Angola.

The regional workshop aims to bring policy and decision makers in Southern Africa and other stakeholders in the wetlands, environment, and water resources management under the theme Earth Observation bridging the gap between science and policy”.

The GMES and Africa Southern Africa Regional Workshop provides a platform for policy and decision makers and stakeholders to strengthen cross-fertilization and exchange knowledge on new and innovative earth observation technologies as well as promote and encourage mutual exchanges in terms of sharing best practices, knowledge, and experiences.

The workshop that is funded under the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security and Africa (GMES & Africa)  Programme, will be attended by an estimated delegation of 100 stakeholders.   The GMES and Africa Programme is an initiative between the African and European Union on Earth Observation (EO) systems in response to global needs, to manage the environment, understand and mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure civil security by providing information to policymakers, scientists, private sector, and the public.
