WeMAST Phase II Training on Earth Observation Applications in Wetland Monitoring And Assessment

Background, rationale and objectives

Wetland Assessment and Monitoring Platform for Transboundary River Basins in Southern Africa (WeMAST) project is pleased to announce a training course on Earth Observation (EO) applications in wetlands monitoring and assessment.

Expected outputs/Learning outcomes

By the end of the training, participants should able to demonstrate:

Understanding the use of geospatial tools and their application in wetland mapping and assessment
Understanding of the role of EO data in wetland mapping and assessment
Delineate wetland extents and their temporal variability in sub watersheds within river basins usingEO data
Assess wetland condition changes using EO dataParticipants: The course is targeting River Basin Organizations, National Water/ Environmental Authorities, Academic and Research institutions, Private sector, Local communities’ representatives, Non- governmental organisations, Women in natural and water resources management.

Mode of Training

The training will take place in a classroom setting in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Participants must bring their own laptop computers capable of performing basic GIS and remote sensing analyses. During the training, participants will be given a training kit, which includes a set of documents.

Training dates

The two-day WeMAST training course on EO applications in wetland monitoring and assessment will run from 2 to 3 March 2023.

Deadline for registration is 21st February 2023. Women are strongly encouraged to register. More information available here.
